Professor Arif Ersoy...Has Passed Away on 2nd September 2020
It was a sad news that many of my friends and colleagues in Turkey and worldwide have shared with me a few days ago. I regard him as my big brother. He was so humble and easy going. I had good time with him in Istanbul in 2017 as depicted in few photos in this post.
I know him as one of great Turkish scholars in Islamic economics and Islamic finance. He was the former Rector of Sabahattin Zaim University in Istanbul.
Here a few words about his credentials.
He graduated from Ankara University from Faculty of Political Sciences in 1973 and from Konya High Islamic Institute at the same time. He received the Cambridge First Certificate in English in UK in 1975 and his MA from Leeds University at the Faculty of Economy Department in 1976. He later received his PhD from Ege University in 1979. He was appointed to Dokuz Eylül University as assistant professor in 1982 then he became an assosiate professor in 1986 and subsequently professor in 1992.
In 2015 he took office at Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Business and Management Sciences as Professor of Economy. Before he passed away, he has been managing Islamic Economics and Finance Application and Research Center at Zaim University.
May Allah bless his soul and grant his family a lot of patience and perseverance.
I can still recall a good discussion that we had in the green and beatiful compound of Zaim University during the spring time in Istanbul. He was so energetic and forthcoming on many issues and themes of our informal discussion.
May Allah award him a good and pleasant transit down there and make him the people of the beatiful paradise later.
Let us offer our sincere prayer to his soul.
